know-how

Against a backdrop of major changes in corporate management practices, we are seeing the emergence of solutions and certifications designed to provide a framework and reinforce the quality of business processes.

These include ISO 9001 certification, which is a quality management standard and a benchmark in its field. The figures speak for themselves: over a million certificates have been issued to organisations in 189 countries since it was created 37 years ago.

As a company committed to excellence, quality and customer satisfaction, Viaposte has been rewarded since 2011 with ISO 9001 certification for its freight forwarding business. This certification has been renewed for a further 3 years at the start of 2024, and also covers flow management activities.

Find out from Abderrahman Nassiri, Quality Manager and business line referent at Viaposte, what steps have been taken internally to comply with the ISO 9001 quality management standard.

Focus on ISO 9001 certification

Definition and scope

Created in 1987 and regularly revised to keep pace with changes in business practices, ISO 9001 certification has been a resounding success for several decades: it is now the quality management standard most frequently encountered throughout the world.

This international standard is unique in that it can be adapted to any type of organisation and any sector of activity: industry, public sector, services, health, etc.  It defines very specific criteria in line with customer requirements and the legal and regulatory framework.

It is based on the 7 principles of quality management:

  • Customer focus;
  • Management responsibility;
  • Staff involvement;
  • The process approach;
  • Improvement;
  • Evidence-based decision-making;
  • Managing relations with interested parties.

Benefits for certified companies

ISO 9001 certification helps to reinforce a company's credibility while demonstrating its economic commitment to quality. The main benefit is greater confidence on the part of partners, customers and other stakeholders.

ISO 9001-certified companies are also demonstrating their interest in contemporary management methods that are more focused on people and respect for others, and the integration of continuous improvement practices within their organisation.

At a time when CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is gaining in importance, the ISO 9001 standard is helping to anchor certified companies in this trend.

ISO 9001 certification renewed in 2024 for Viaposte

Viaposte's transport business in the spotlight once again!

2024 marks the renewal of Viaposte's ISO 9001 certification, confirming its commitment to excellence on several levels:

  • Maintain high quality standards in all its activities (chartering and flow management);
  • Continue to improve processes and performance;
  • Meeting changing customer and market expectations;
  • Strengthen its competitive position by demonstrating its commitment to service quality.

Abderrahman Nassiri, Quality Manager and business referent at Viaposte for the past 5 years, explains: "For the company, obtaining ISO 9001 certification goes far beyond administrative formalities! For us, it's an opportunity to stand out from the crowd and better position ourselves to respond more favourably to various calls for tender and to our customers' requests."

The auditor we met noted a number of strong points in our application for certification, including :

  • The strong involvement of the teams and management, which has demonstrated a real desire to use the quality management system (QMS) as a tool for driving continuous improvement.
  • Excellent monitoring of business performance
  • Effective internal communication through regular meetings
  • The quality of the process reviews, which provide a clear view of the areas for improvement in line with the company's strategy
  • Adapting methods and tools to the needs of customers' operations

Viapost's ISO 9001 commitments

Certification is valid for 3 years, with annual follow-up audits carried out internally to check processes, adjust them if necessary and ensure that the same level of quality is maintained. This organisation does not, of course, preclude the introduction of self-monitoring procedures aimed at specific business or management areas.

In practical terms, what does this mean for a company like Viaposte?  Abderrahman Nassiri sees a twofold benefit:

  • Externally, this certification is a prerequisite for responding to certain calls for tender;
  • Internally, it enables better control and compliance with processes, methodology and handling of anomalies.

"Once certification has been obtained, efforts must be maintained: we must guarantee to our customers that we are committed to a strategy of continuous improvement to meet the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard. So we have to constantly rethink our practices:

  • How do we manage our quality system?
  • How can we better manage our business internally?
  • How can you guarantee compliance with the standard?
  • How can I comply with transport purchasing procedures?"

A final word? "Our transport business has grown considerably in the last 5 years! With this certification, we want to support this development by putting in place procedures to structure the business even further and provide a framework for it!
